How It Works
How do metal braces work?
Metal braces are one of the most popular choices for orthodontic treatment. They use small brackets fixed to the teeth and a wire that applies controlled pressure over time, guiding teeth into better alignment. From fixing crowded or gapped teeth to correcting rotations and bite issues, metal braces handle it all with reliable precision for patients of all ages.
- The mechanics are simple. Brackets are attached to the teeth, wires connect them, and those wires are adjusted across the course of treatment to move the teeth gradually.
- Orthodontic treatment also looks beyond the smile line: it can address bite function, jaw alignment, and issues that make chewing or cleaning difficult.
- An orthodontist will usually examine your mouth and face, take X-rays or digital models, and then map out a plan suited to your case.

Metal dental braces can be appropriate for children, teens, and adults, particularly where there’s crowding, spacing, protruding teeth, a poor bite, or asymmetry between the left and right side of the mouth. They may also help when orthodontic issues affect speaking, chewing, or breathing. Because treatment is personalised, suitability depends on the details of the bite and the amount of movement needed.
